Property Description
Rainbow Retreat is a true solar powered Eco retreat with sensational ocean Views of the North East Coast of Tasmania. Each cabin has a generous size ensuite bathroom fitted with quality linen, a full kitchen, comfortable queen size bed, dining setting, sofa lounge, pot belly wood heater, mini bar and a color TV, also a large private balcony that looks out over the amazing ocean views.
The cabins are fully self contained or if you wish, quality meals can be prepared by the in-house chef which are delivered fresh to your cabin.
Features in each cabin include:

- self-contained or meals can be supplied, including delicious woodfired pizza or a dish from the inhouse menu.
- full liquor license and each cabin has a wine rack with a selection of premium Tasmania and Banrock Station wines

- cabins are timber lined and open plan, queen size bed, a double fold out futon, dining suite, colour TV, radio and a potbelly stove.
- generous size ensuite bathroom with Sheridan king size bath towels.
- cabins run on a 12-volt solar system.

Energy
- We run 100% on solar and wind power
- We use energy efficient light bulbs.
- Our fridges are 12 volt low compression electric fridges, very carbon neutral, unlike gas!
- We do not use electrical clothes dryers, all our laundry is done onsite using our energy and water efficient front loader washing machine.
Water
- We have water restrictors on all water usage.
- We collect our own rain water and we do not use chemicals to treat our water.
Recycling and Waste
- We compost & recycle waste rubbish.
- We only use recycled paper products.
Chemicals
- We only use environmentally friendly cleaning products.
Building Design
- Buildings have been built using renewable resources and have been built facing north to capture the natural sunlight to power the solar system and use less energy.
Further Initiatives
- Peter and Ian are wildlife carers and we release all the animals back into the wild.
- The property is listed as a Land for Wildlife, the land is protected by a Conservation Covenant and has the highest conservation listing as a Private Nature Reserve.
- A Private Nature Reserve can only be granted to properties who have particular natural values and is passed by both houses of parliament.
- The land cannot be mined or logged perpetually.
- We are continually planting new indigenous trees and shrubs on the property.
- We harvest a very small amount of timber to run the slow combustion stove which provides hot water, heating and for cooking.
We take actions to: conserve heat, conserve water, install eco-friendly lighting, reduce oil/gas carbon emissions, compost waste food, recycle wherever possible, use bio degradable cleaning agents, use reclamation building materials, use renewable natural furnishings, source food locally, offer local employment, instruct staff in green practices, include green room info packs, mention green/eco issues on our Web site, conserve/care for wildlife in our area, Registered wildlife carers.
