Environmental Initiatives:

Energy
- Energy efficient lighting is used throughout the villas.
- Guests are encouraged to hang towels and washing out on the clothesline when the weather is fine, instead of using the clothes dryer.

Water
- Water conservation and reduction methods employed include front loading washing machines, dual flush toilets, low flow shower heads.

Recycling
- Composting of all green waste
- Guests can dispose of their green waste into a compost bin situated between the two villas.
- Recycling facilities provided for guests include an aluminium can crusher located on the wall outside the back doors of each villa for guests to use and then we recycle the collected cans
- a box for newspapers is provided for composting.

Product Use
- Bulk buying and minimal packaging of products includes the use of one litre bottles of shower/bath gel in each villa for guests to use.

Chemical Use
- Use of environmentally friendly cleaning products, typically Earth Choice products, bicarbonate of soda and vinegar.

Building
- Both villas have recently been insulated, which has noticeably improved the interior temperature of the villas.
- Ceiling fans are located throughout the villas.

Further Initiatives
With our desire to give something back to the environment and reduce our carbon footprint, every confirmed booking for Kuranda Villas will result in the planting of a tree by the Koah Revegetation Group for us along the Clohesy and Barron Rivers to stabilise the riverbanks. The plantings will take place in the "wet season" when the rainfall is plentiful. Guests who live in the rainforested regions of Far North and North Queensland have the choice of picking a species of tree from Curlew Nursery's plant list to take home with them to plant in their garden, if they prefer. In addition, guests can also choose to purchase trees at a cost of $2.50 per tree for planting by the Koah Revegetation Group or to take home.
