Kanimbla View also offers a dedicated conference centre/yoga studio and accommodation for up to 18 and celebrations such as small weddings or family get-togethers can be accommodated. The focus for the celebration is the fabulous nine-sided building -the Adobe Lodge, which was featured on the cover of the Good Weekend in 2006.
Environmental Initiatives:
Kanimbla View set out to design and operate a retreat that would accommodate their guests in great style and comfort – without costing the Earth. Kanimbla View has won several awards for environmental best practices.
Energy
The cottages are solar-powered. Even the Glasshouse Spa runs off a solar grid-connect system. The Discovery Channel rated Kanimbla View as one of the 10 best solar-powered tourism properties in the world.
Waste
Guests may participate in the extensive recycling and composting program.
Water Management
Water-saving measures include odourless composting toilets that not only use no water but also mininmise the impact on the bush.
Environmental education
Extensive information is provided about Kanimbla View’s environment and Australian flora and fauna generally. As supporters of the Australian Conservation Foundation’s “Earthkids” program, a good supply of educational materials is available to help children learn more about the bush.
Land management
Kanimbla View has recently entered into a Voluntary Conservation Agreement with NSW’s National Parks & Wildlife Service to co-manage Kanimbla View’s clifftop sanctuary. This VCA will preserve the escarpment and habitat of rare and endangered species like the Glossy Black Cockatoo.
Wildlife refuge
The National Parks & Wildlife Service has also declared the whole of Kanimbla View a wildlife refuge. You’ll love the birds, frogs, lizards and other wildlife – and understand why pets aren't allowed on the property.
Built environment
The buildings – especially the eco-cottages – have been designed, sited and built to minimize their environmental impact. Their interiors are notable for the extensive use of natural and recycled materials.
Guest comments
Quotes from previous guests about the commitment of Kanimbla View to the environment.
“From concept to execution, Kanimbla View is ecotourism at its best.”
Guy Chester, former V-P, Ecotourism Australia
"As environmental journalists with a special interest in the concept of ecotourism we were amazed at the sensitive and thought through concept that you have structured your ecotourism business with. You do not seem to have forgotten anything - even supplying your guests with views of the Blue Mountains escarpments … that can easily compete with the icons of this magnificent area. Well, better in a way: here you are by yourself … with the beautiful landscape. We wish you the very best of luck in your future environmental challenges and missions."
Peter Hanneberg (co-founder of the Swedish Ecotourist Society)
"You have successfully illustrated that you can create a pleasant, welcoming space with an appropriate ambience for your setting and construct and run it with minimal harm to the environment. I wish you every success as each successful model will encourage others to see it is possible."
Penelope Figgis AM, V-P, Australian Conservation Foundation
