INFORMATION FOR ACCOMMODATION OPERATORS REGARDING INCLUSION ON THE ECOHOTEL WEB DIRECTORY
Through sharing ideas about environmental sustainability in the tourism industry and promoting green travel within Australia, our aim is to raise the standard of environmentally responsible accommodation within Australia and to discourage the use of 'eco' or 'green' as a marketing tool, unless properties have accreditation or evidence of genuine environmental initiatives. We encourage operators who are working towards environmental sustainability and/or accreditation to contact the ecohotel directory.
We carefully screen every operator against our criteria for responsible accommodation. We don't claim to be perfect, and we acknowledge the difficult nature of the whole concept of 'ecotourism". We do however aim to encourage and promote those operators who have invested a great deal of time, effort and money to gain Australian eco accreditation and to lessen their impact on the environment in whichever way they can.
We encourage the accommodation operators who wish to list with us to consider the AAA Green star rating scheme as a starting point only.
We invite every guest to write a review about the environmental initiatives of any of the ecohotel properties. This feedback is sent to the people who run the accommodation. You can be assured that any accommodation that doesn't live up to our standards will no longer be listed on ecohotel.
The ecohotel web directory is run by a small group of committed individuals who aim to promote genuine environmental responsibility in the tourism industry.

What is a photovoltaic system?
Photovoltaic systems convert sunlight into electricity. While the photovoltaic system itself is a significant investment, its running costs are extremely low, and it can divert any power not used in the home to the state's electricity supply network, for which the householder is paid.
The average household produces fifteen tonnes of greenhouse gas each year. A photovoltaic system, particularly when used alongside a solar hot water system, makes a direct contribution to eliminating greenhouse gas emissions by using the sun's energy to power the home.
